On 30th January 2012, BMC announced a definitive agreement to acquire Numara Software. As part of this announcement, they also indicated a commitment to offer an expanded range of IT Service Management (ITSM) solutions for organisations of all sizes, from small businesses to the largest global enterprises.
Who are Numara Software?
They are a successful mid-market ITSM software vendor that sell Footprints and Track-it (originally Intuit). They have about 275 employees and 13,000 active customers.
Why have BMC bought them?
Following this acquisition, BMC Software will be able to service a broader range of customers, from very small to very large, from a position of strength and the expertise of the market share leader.
BMC's mid-market Service Desk offerings
Instead of offering multiple products with similar functionality to address common customer requirements, BMC Software have decided that Numara FootPrints, to be known as BMC FootPrints, will become BMC's preferred on-premise product to address the needs of mid-sized organizations. FootPrints is a proven solution with thousands of customers, and in 2011 Numara won the Service Desk Institute Supplier of the Year Award.
BMC Remedyforce, the fastest growing SaaS IT management solution with strong ease of use, rapid time to value, and the strengths of the force.com cloud platform, will be BMC's preferred SaaS offering. BMC will also continue to offer BMC's industry-leading BMC Remedy ITSM Suite and BMC Remedy OnDemand for our larger enterprise customers. Fusion has extensive knowledge in all these solutions.
Service Desk Express customers don't have to do anything. Just keep using the product and know that BMC will continue to support you for several years to come. You will be able to purchase additional user capacity and receive maintenance support through May 2017. BMC also intends to provide product enhancements in the coming year consistent with the current product roadmap.
